Global Kids Online fieldwork in Uruguay has started

Uruguay is embarking on innovative research on children’s online experiences as part of the Global Kids Online network in Latin America. The Kids Online study is conducted with the joint effort of UNICEF – United Nations Children’s Fund – Plan Ceibal, UNESCO, AGESIC, and the Universidad Católica del Uruguay.

Excellent support from key stakeholders in Ghana

At the Global Kids Online meeting earlier this summer, UNICEF Child Protection Officer Joyce Odame outlined that UNICEF Ghana is currently funding national research on the risks and opportunities associated with child online practices in Ghana. A progress report highlighted the scope of the research, active involvement of a range of key stakeholders and some key challenges emerging during the fieldwork.

Global Kids Online Uruguay
11th July 2017
Uruguay has been conducting innovative research on children’s online experiences as part of the Global Kids Online network in Latin America. The Kids Online study is carried out with the joint effort of UNICEF – United Nations Children’s Fund – Plan Ceibal, UNESCO, AGESIC, and the Universidad Católica del Uruguay. The fieldwork took place from July to September 2017 and explored the online experiences of children aged 9 to 17.

Global Kids Online Ghana
11th July 2017
UNICEF Ghana, Ipsos and a number of ministries collaborated on a initiative aiming to fill in the evidence gaps related to children’s online risks and opportunities and to create new strategies for child protection in Ghana. The study included qualitative and quantitative research with children aged 9 to 17 and their parents.

Global Kids Online Chile
11th July 2017
Patricio Cabello (Universidad de Chile) and Magdalena Claro (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile) in collaboration with Ipsos Chile carried out a national representative survey of children in Chile and their internet use. The research explored the online practices, opportunities, and digital skills that children have, as well as the risks they face and the support offered by parents and educators.

Highlights from 18 months of Global Kids Online
17th February 2017
The Global Kids Online team and partners from Argentina, Serbia, South Africa and the Philippines spent the last 18 months developing and testing a multi-method research toolkit. Researchers in Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Ghana, and Montenegro also joined in to conduct primary research asking children about their experiences on the internet and the contexts and consequence of internet use.
