2018: more research, new findings and further impact

With new findings from Brazil, Ghana and Uruguay emerging during the year, Global Kids Online has now surveyed over 15,000 children and 12,000 of their carers since 2016, continuing to emphasise the important role of children as active agents in the global digital environment. With new research in Albania, Canada, Montenegro, New Zealand and the Philippines underway, as well as research impact assessments in four Global Kids Online countries, the quest for expanding the evidence base continues.

GKO launching in Canada with a focus on privacy

The eQuality project, in partnership with UNICEF Canada and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) will be bringing Global Kids Online to Canada in 2018 with the launch of the Canadian Kids Online project led by Professor Valerie Steeves (University of Ottawa). The new study will focus on the online experiences of Canadian youth, as well as the ways in which their knowledge of online privacy issues affects their experiences in the online environment.

The eQuality Project – a seven year SSHRC-funded partnership of scholars, research and policy institutes, policymakers, educators, community organizations, and youth – will launch the Canadian Kids Online Project in 2018 with collaboration from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC), and UNICEF Canada. It will focus on the online experiences of Canadian youth, as well as their knowledge of online privacy, and how that affects their online experiences.
