Joanne Phyfer is a researcher at the Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention (CJCP), South Africa. She has managed and worked on a number of studies during her time at CJCP, all with a focus on child safety. These include a baseline study for a project seeking to promote the resilience of children in the Walmer community of Port Elizabeth, research on the role of the police in South African schools, and the UBS national study on child abuse, neglect and maltreatment. Joanne has also done work to promote safety in schools, having been involved in the implementation of the National School Safety Framework. She has previously written on issues of online safety, and holds an MSocSci in Research Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and completed a dissertation on racial identity in the South African context.
